Virtual analog synthesizer

The Cobalt8M from Modal Electronics is an eight-voice virtual analog synthesizer in a desktop chassis or 19" rack with 3 RU when using the included rack ears. The synthesis is based on 34 different algorithms, which can generate more complex waveforms in addition to classic waveforms such as sine, pulse, triangle and sawtooth. The resonating four-pole ladder filter can be freely morphed using four different filter types. The built-in polyphonic sequencer and arpeggiator, as well as the built-in DSP effects, give the Cobalt8M ad hoc lively character.

Filter

Four-pole morphable ladder filter with resonance and four switchable configurations. Cutoff frequency is controlled by the large endless pot, allowing precise and sensitive adjustment of the filter. Below this are the controls for resonance and for morphing, which allows stepless crossfading between four different filter characteristics (morphing). Through this function, in conjunction with the complex oscillators, remarkably abstract sounds can be formed, which predestines Modal Electronics Cobalt8M for sound design. 

Modulation

Three dedicated envelope generators for AMP, MOD and FILTER that can be accessed independently or simultaneously, including negative (inverted) versions for MOD and FILTER ENVs. Three audio LFOs with tempo sync (two poly, one global) with seven different waveforms. Eight assignable modulation slots plus four fixed modulation routings for a total of 12 modulation sources and 55 modulation destinations.

Sequencer and arpeggiator

Polyphonic real-time 512-note sequencer with four additional tracks for parameter animation.
Flexible and programmable arpeggiator with 32 steps and pause function. Complex progressions with up to 2048 steps possible before repeating.

FX

Three independent, powerful and user-configurable stereo FX engines for chorus, phaser, flanger (pos), flanger (neg), tremolo, LoFi, rotary, stereo delay, ping-pong delay, X-over delay and reverb, which can be arranged in any order.
