Four fantastic sounding solo violins in the EXtended Version 2.0
Chris Hein - Solo Violin EXtended puts everything that has existed so far in the shade with a total of 4 different sounding instruments. Never before has there been such an elaborate sample library that concentrates on a single string instrument. Recorded with great care and attention to detail, accurately reworked and assembled into a practical contact player instrument with an elaborate, custom-made user interface and comprehensive scripting, Chris Hein - Solo Violin offers the highest quality sound and incredibly realistic articulations.
Producer Chris Hein has brought more than 30 years of experience in sampling to this library, giving the user maximum flexibility, configurability and practical benefits.
Chris Hein - Solo Violin EXtended is a bundle of four fantastic sounding solo violin instruments.
The recordings were made by experienced studio musicians on selected instruments with special timbres. The virtual implementation was optimized for even better playability and performance (EX Instruments). This saves your computer resources and you still have all the basic articulations for nuanced play at your disposal.
The following instruments are available:
Modern violin has the hi-fi sound with extreme dynamics and precise, assertive tone.
The Italian Violin is an old and very valuable violin, built by Augusto Pollastri. It has a warm, soft sound, you can hear the old noble wood of the instrument.
French violin as EX-instrument
Original 1826 as EX-instrument
The respective instruments sound absolutely authentic in every way of playing, whether as ensemble or solo. Chris Hein - Solo Violin EXtended delivers outstanding, detailed and above all expressive results in all genres relevant to this instrument: classical music, film music, gypsy jazz, folklore, pop ballads.
And the library goes even further. For sound designers, composers of film and game soundtracks as well as experimental musicians Chris Hein - Solo Violin EXtended possesses special effect sounds, extraordinary articulation with partly extreme dynamics such as flautando, flageolets and ponticello. Therefore the range of the virtual instrument was extended compared to a real violin. These special effect sounds are also supported by the integrated tenfold DSP effect rack. Multilayered sound clusters, dense atmospheres and surreal sound worlds can emerge from a single violin and create unbelievable moments of tension.
Overview of articulations
With Ensemble Maker the solo instrument can be easily transformed into an ensemble that has all articulations of the library at its disposal. Or you can use the multis created by Chris Hein, in which the voices in the panorama and fine tuning have already been split up.
Chris Hein - Solo Violin EXtended will satisfy the discerning lover of stringed instruments as well as composers who need more than just outstanding samples and who explicitly value comprehensive details, a complete range of playing styles and flexible adaptation to the preferred working method.
On the one hand, the instrument offers an elaborate full sample set in which all of the numerous articulations are ready to play on the keyboard. Thanks to the modular approach of the library, it is also possible to call significantly reduced variants in which the loading times are kept short and the memory requirement is low.
In the Clean Start configuration, the instruments are first loaded into memory in a sustain variant, while all other articulations and functions that consume resources can simply be reloaded at the touch of a button and only when they are needed. This allows you to work smoothly and efficiently even on compact and mobile production systems with lean memory requirements.
For Chris Hein - Solo Violin EXtended the internationally renowned violinist Naomi Binder played her exquisite instrument. Thanks to her incredible hearing and precision, coupled with her artistic discipline and routine, she was able to record the viola evenly and accurately over the entire range up to the G5, which is quite high for a viola, from the softest to the loudest tone.
Naomi Binder works as a violinist and viola player in classical concerts as well as in musical crossover projects. In countless solo appearances in the Köln Arena, the Philharmonie Dortmund and on chamber music stages throughout Germany, Austria and Japan, she enchants audiences with her virtuosity, empathy and not least her stylistic diversity, which includes influences from jazz and pop as well as the classical violin repertoire.
As with all Chris Hein productions, a conscious decision was made to use a recording microphone in a dry recording room. The dry sound of the library, in combination with the double reverb section on a convolution basis of the sample engine, allows the instrument to be optimally adapted to a wide variety of contexts. Separate folding units for the body sound (body) and the spatial impression (room) allow the creation of almost any spatial impression, ranging from intimate proximity to the large orchestra hall. In contrast to the fixed spatiality of several competing products, Chris Hein - Solo Viola EXtended is therefore extremely variable in terms of sound and can also be combined with almost any other library.

Perfect dynamic transitions thanks to Phase Align
In research work lasting several months, all samples were adapted to each other in their phase position. Accordingly, the sound image of the instrument convinces with absolutely seamless transitions between the dynamic levels without sound impairments.
Unique miscibility of long and short tones
The combination of long played and short notes in Sample Libaries always raises problems regarding the authenticity of the sound image. When playing real instruments, the length of the tone influences both its attack and the end of the tone. The solution for this aspect is the "Note Head Designer". This function, known from other Chris Hein libraries, has been extended considerably for Chris Hein - Solo Violin. Up to 102 Attack Shapes are available. From this, twelve adapted short sample variants (shorts) can now be called up for each sustain style, which not only have the corresponding attack behavior, but are also perfectly bound according to the tone length.
The user-defined selection of the desired short variants, each available in eight dynamic levels and combined with the corresponding sustain phases, enables an absolutely realistic sound result that cannot be achieved with conventional random selection methods according to the round robin principle. Of course the shorts are also available as single articulations.
Chris Hein - Solo Violin EXtended offers True Legato in up to four dynamic levels as well as separated for short and long. The result of the corresponding elaborate recordings and editing leads to unimaginably realistic sound results at the tone transitions. At the same time, there are possible realistic-sounding combinations with artificially inserted legato variants.
Scope of the Library
The performance data reflects the effort put into recording and configuring this library. The two "Full" instruments consist of more than 22,000 individual samples, up to 38 articulations and up to eight velocity layers. For the two additional EX instruments we added another 12.000 samples. Thus Chris Hein - Solo Violin is probably the most detailed sampled violin on the market.
The user interface of the Kontakt Player not only contains numerous functions for sound design and the adjustment of playing styles, but also gives the user a lot of freedom in the configuration. Pre-programmed key switch presets at the bottom of the keyboard also ensure fast application without editing.
With four Dynamic Modes, Note-Head Designer, Key-Vibrato, Hot-Keys and the revolutionary concept of articulation presets, the user interface gives the musician the feeling of playing these instruments live.
Contact Player 5.6.8 or later required.
