For decades, the 1970s German original was the secret weapon between the master tape and the vinyl cutter: pairs of U473/U473A VCA compressors in sought-after German mastering consoles of the 1970s and 1980s pulled the midrange of countless records forward and polished their tone. Thanks to independent compressor, limiter and expander modules, NEU-473A suits subtle applications as well as hard limiting, and the recreation features all of the original’s signature functions, including the handy De-Es and Bass-cut switches. Its aggressive transient grabbing and forward mids took the original into recording and mixing studios, and NEU-473A is the right tone- and dynamics-shaping tool wherever the midrange needs to come forward in the mix.
