BA-31 is a colourful booster preamp that faithfully preserves the authentic sound of the rare germanium transistor unit that inspired it.

BA-31 is neither clean nor transparent, especially when pushed to its limits: with 40 dB of fixed gain, it adds an old-school touch to your recordings while offering the flexibility and ease of use of a modern plug-in. It is ideally suited as a preamp for classic ribbon and dynamic microphones, comes in handy when DI-ing guitars, and run across a group mix it delivers a tasty 1960s crunch. The original was introduced in the 1960s, was found in broadcast and recording studios across the USA until the 1970s, and has a sound somewhat reminiscent of some Neve preamp models.
