VPA76 is a tube mic preamp model based on the 1950s German microphone preamp known as the “Rolls-Royce” of tube mic preamps.

The original was designed by the German Institute of Broadcast Technology (IRT), built by TAB from the late 1950s and stood out for its 12-step gain selector from +3 to +76 dB, while its pentode tube and high-quality balancing transformers shaped its coveted vintage sound. Generations of engineers, from Abbey Road to the EMI studio facilities, have sought out its rich and musical tube gain. VPA76 faithfully recreates the classic controls: a 3 kHz roll-off switch, a four-step low cut filter, an adjustable high-pass filter, a Warmth knob for extra tube character and output volume. The plug-in delivers up to 76 dB of tube gain and works on virtually any source, from drums and vocals to guitars.
