A percussive virtual instrument recorded in a decommissioned grain silo whose multi-storey concrete chambers create a natural reverb unlike any studio.

The sources were massive metal sheets, interconnected resonating staircases, ventilation shafts and unusual metallic structures within the silo, and every strike travelled through several storeys of concrete and metal, gaining natural delays and reverbs. The result sits between industrial percussion and ambient sculpture, ideal for trailer music with massive impacts, tension-filled film scores and electronic, industrial and experimental productions. In MNDALA 2 the sounds come to life through the sequencer, live effects and macros on the X, Y and Z axes, and modulation even turns the percussive sounds into synths. The Dark Tower is the first instalment of MNTRA’s Microfield Recording Series.
