A reactive polyphonic instrument built from rare pre-Hispanic ceremonial instruments of Mexico, recorded with Ramiro Ramírez and transformed into playable sound sculptures.

Ramiro Ramírez is one of Mexico’s most revered pre-Hispanic musicians, whose work includes the Mesoamerican soundscapes of Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and collaborations with Jean-Michel Jarre. In the live room of Panoram Studio in Mexico City, clay flutes, water flutes, ocarinas, conch trumpets (Atekokolli), ritual whistles and Huehuetl and Teponaztli drums were captured at 384 kHz / 32-bit with ultrasonic microphones in mid-side, ambience, room and Eigenmike ambisonic configurations. In MNDALA 2 the sources merge, morph and respond to your touch in real time, while Sample Start Modulation (SSM) ensures that no note repeats mechanically. Inspired by Carlos Castaneda’s concept of the Tonal and the Nagual, the presets suit sound design, experimental music, film scoring, ritual atmospheres and sound healing.
