Cans2Cones emulates stereo speaker distance and crossfeed on headphones, helping you judge how your mix will sound on loudspeakers when mixing at home, in a dorm room or on the road.

Cans2Cones reduces the “superstereo” effect of headphones with cross-mixed interaural time and amplitude differences (ITD and IAD) – unlike simple panning, this creates a sense of distance to the emulated speakers, with the subtle EQ changes and comb filtering of real loudspeakers in a real room. It is not a headphone equalizer and adds no room correction or ambience, assuming instead a flat response in a heavily treated room with monitors in an equilateral triangle, while its Dynamic De-Compression control reduces the compressed “in your head” sound so you can better judge reverb and compression in a mix. Three Quick Select presets for near-field, mid-field and far-field, a Distance control for other distances and a Subwoofer control for the low end change the perspective just like moving monitors around a real room.
